Vitamin C is a POWERHOUSE ingredient which has been used in skincare for years but what is it?

Vitamin C is an important antioxidant which protects the skin from Free Radicals - the pesky & unstable molecules which can damage the cells in our body, especially as we age, which can cause the skin to age, cause fine lines & wrinkles as well as affecting the texture & tone of the skin.

Vitamin C comes in many forms but its L-ascorbic Acid which effectively protects our skin from the cell damage - see for yourself… Two slices of apple, both left in moderate sunlight for 8 hours, one with Obagi Vitamin C Serum 15% and one with nothing. As you can see the slice of apple with nothing has massively deteriorated & showing discolouration as well as an uneven texture, whereas the slice with 5-7 drops of Obagi Vitamin C Serum is still clear, bright, crisp & plump. This experiment mimics the effect this powerful ingredient has on the skin in an environment which matches that of an average office for a typical working day!

Apply your Vitamin C on clean skin every morning before your moisturiser & SPF for maximum protection against ageing & keep your skin clear, bright & wrinkle free!

We have a range of Vitamin C products to suit a range of skin types, speak with one of our therapists on your next visit to find the right one for you!!

Lips to Love - Questions we get asked all the time about lip fillers.

Will I get a duck lip? All our lip dermal filler treatments are carried out by experienced Aesthetic Nurses who have been trained to the highest standard & have a full understanding of the lip anatomy and that the perfect lips are often described as a full bottom lip with an upper lip that slightly projects. Using dermal fillers from the Juvederm Ultra / Vycross range it is possible to help shape, plump & define the lip to the ideal shape.

Will it hurt? The Juvederm Vycross / Ultra range include lidocaine, which can help reduce discomfort during the procedure. We will always apply numbing cream 10-15 minutes before hand making the procedure even more comfortable. Your lips will feel quite numb straight after and maybe a bit tender for a few days after.

Are there any risks? Having any dermal fillers do not come without risk. Some risks are greater than others such as some redness, swelling and bruising which although this may not look great, it will always settle within a week leaving lovely shaped lips. It is always best to not have your lips treated just before a big event & always allow 2 weeks for your lips to truly settle.

How long will it last? Most patients will require treatment every 6 months although in some cases it may take more than one visit to reach the desired look.

What if I don’t like them, can I just have them dissolved? You should never have it in your mind that you can just dissolve your lips if you don’t like them. Again, dissolving lips doesn’t come without risk and really should only be used in an emergency situation. |If you are nervous about the look always start with 1/2ml Juvederm and build up over time.

Its time to stop dreaming and start doing…. talk to your Aesthetic Nurse to find out how Juvederm can give you lips to love.

Did you know we offer Sclerotherapy to treat spider veins on your legs?

What does it involve? After a medical consultation with Nurse Lee, you will be asked to lie on the bed, the effected areas cleansed & images taken. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein that feeds the spider veins. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades. Sclerotherapy is often used for cosmetic reasons as and have very few risks although temporary side effectscan arise such as bruising.

After you will be asked to wear compression stockings for 7-10 days following injections with the doctor and 3-4 days following treatmentwith the nurse. Compression stockings are vital to treatment success, aid in shrinkage of the treated veins, improveblood circulation and lessen the risk of blood clots to the leg.

  1. Exercise/Activity Restrictions and Recommendations:▪ Avoid strenuous exercise such as running and leg weight training for 7 days after injections with the doctor and2-3 days after injections with the nurse.▪ 15-20 minutes of walking daily is recommended. Other mild exercise (bicycling, swimming, elliptical trainer, yoga, etc.) is also fine the first week following injections.▪ Wear your compression stockings during activity if possible. Gradually increase your activity as your posttreatment soreness fades.
  2. Pain control: We recommend Tylenol (acetaminophen) for any discomfort during the first 2-3 days after treatment. If you feel anti-inflammatories are necessary, please call the office to consult with the physician. Cold packs appliedto any tender areas will also help with pain.
  3. Bathing: Please keep the leg dry the day of treatment. Avoid soaking in hot baths or hot-tubs 1 week aftertreatment. Showers are fine starting the day after treatment.
  4. Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF 30 sunscreen on treateaised red areas, small skin sores, darkened skin in the form of lines or spots and multiple tiny red blood vessels.

After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take a month or more to see the full results. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.
